Grilled Sausage Burgers with Poblano Peppers and Easy Guacamole
Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, and for many families, it is also the perfect time to open the backyard, fire up the grill, and enjoy a relaxed meal outdoors. Warm weather, casual gatherings, and simple grilled food make this season feel special. Instead of spending hours in the kitchen, this grilled sausage burger recipe keeps things easy, flavorful, and perfect for sharing with family and friends.
These grilled sausage burgers with poblano peppers are a great choice for a weekend cookout, backyard birthday party, holiday gathering, or any casual summer dinner. The sausage patties bring plenty of flavor on their own, while the grilled poblano peppers add a smoky, slightly earthy taste that pairs beautifully with cheddar, bacon, and classic burger toppings. The result is a satisfying grilled burger that feels a little different from the usual cookout menu without adding extra work.
Recently, I found Johnsonville grillers at my local grocery store and picked up a few boxes to serve at a backyard birthday party. They were simple to prepare, easy to grill, and already packed with savory sausage flavor. Johnsonville grillers come in several varieties, including Cheddar Cheese and Bacon, Swiss Cheese and Mushroom, and Original Bratwurst. Because the patties can go straight from the freezer to the grill, they are especially convenient when you want a no-fuss meal that still tastes hearty and homemade.

For this recipe, I used the Cheddar Cheese and Bacon flavor. The combination works especially well with grilled poblano peppers, creamy avocado, red onion, and a little BBQ sauce. The peppers soften on the grill and develop a smoky flavor that complements the richness of the sausage. They also add a fresh, colorful topping that makes these burgers feel special without requiring complicated prep.
One of the easiest additions to this meal is a quick guacamole made with ripe avocados, lemon juice, cumin, and sea salt. It takes only about a minute to mash together, but it adds a creamy, bright layer that balances the smoky grilled flavors. My husband and I both enjoyed these burgers with BBQ sauce and sliced red onion, but you can easily customize them with your favorite toppings. Pickles, lettuce, tomato, mustard, or extra cheese would also fit right in if that is what your family enjoys.
This is the kind of summer grilling recipe that lets you spend less time worrying about dinner and more time enjoying the people around you. The prep is minimal, the ingredients are simple, and the finished burgers are filling enough to serve as the main dish for a cookout. Add chips, fresh fruit, a salad, or grilled corn on the side, and you have an easy outdoor meal that feels festive without being stressful.
If you are planning a Memorial Day menu or looking for a quick grilling idea for the weekend, these sausage burgers with poblano peppers are a flavorful option to keep in mind. Get outside, enjoy the beautiful weather, and relax knowing this is a simple grilled meal that everyone can build and enjoy their own way.
