iThemes Webinar on Running a Freelance Business

iThemes recently published an in-depth interview with me about my work as a freelance WordPress developer. The conversation covers a wide range of topics that may be useful for developers, designers, consultants, and anyone interested in building a sustainable freelance business around WordPress. If you are just getting started, refining your workflow, improving how you communicate with clients, or thinking more carefully about billing, contracts, and long-term professional growth, this interview series is worth reading.

The series is divided into five parts, making it easy to focus on the areas that are most relevant to your current stage of business. Each article looks at a different part of the freelance development process, from the early steps of getting started to the lessons that come from experience. The links below point to each installment of the iThemes interview:

  • Part 1: Getting Started
  • Part 2: Best Practices
  • Part 3: Billing & Contracts
  • Part 4: Giving Back
  • Part 5: Highlights

For freelance WordPress developers, these topics are especially important because technical skill is only one part of running a successful business. A strong development process also depends on clear expectations, good project planning, professional communication, and a reliable approach to client relationships. The interview touches on those broader business and workflow issues, which are often just as important as writing clean code or choosing the right tools for a project.

The first part, “Getting Started,” is intended for readers who want to understand the early stages of freelance WordPress development. The second part, “Best Practices,” focuses on process and standards, which are essential for delivering consistent results. The third part, “Billing & Contracts,” addresses business structure and client agreements, two areas that many freelancers need to handle carefully. The fourth part, “Giving Back,” looks at the value of contributing to the wider WordPress community. The final part, “Highlights,” brings together notable points from the series.

Now that the full interview has been released, iThemes has also scheduled a live webinar with me. This will give members of their community an opportunity to ask questions directly and continue the conversation beyond the written interview. If you read the series and have questions about freelance development, WordPress project workflow, client management, business practices, or the topics covered in the articles, the webinar will be a good opportunity to join in.

The Q&A webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, May 14th. You can sign up here to join the webinar and participate in the discussion. Whether you are a full-time freelance WordPress developer, considering a move into freelance work, or simply interested in how other developers approach client projects, the session should provide a useful chance to ask practical questions and hear more about the process behind the interview.

I hope to see some of you there. If you have already read the interview series, feel free to bring your questions to the webinar. If you have not read it yet, the five articles linked above are a helpful place to start before joining the live Q&A.
